Beasts and Beauties
7th Dec 11 to 31 Dec 11
Fairy tale fans can take a mystical journey into the weird and wonderful realm of the imagination at Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre this Christmas.
Children of all ages will be able to experience the icy blasts of a Norwegian winter and the grisly goings on in a wicked stepmother’s kitchen in this year’s Brewery Christmas show, Beasts and Beauties, by acclaimed poet Carol Ann Duffy.
Beasts and Beauties features eight spellbinding fairy tales from across Europe including two gruesome tales from the Brothers Grimm and the riotously funny children’s favourite the Emperor’s New Clothes
Perhaps the most well-known of the stories featured in the play is the recently Disney-animated classic Beauty and the Beast which sees a beautiful girl warm to the charms of a misunderstood monster.
Each fairy tale is brought to life by hair-raising costumes – which evoke a menagerie of animals ranging from wolves to mythical beasts – atmospheric scenery and the traditional mainstay of the Christmas show, audience participation.
The show is directed by Mark Smith and is a co-production between the Brewery and Spike Theatre, the touring company credited with bringing an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Danny Champion of the World to the Brewery last Christmas.
