Truro City of Lights

Truro City of Lights

18th November 2015

What’s it all about?
Nothing heralds the Christmas season quite like the warm glow of festive lights and this year the theme is Heros. The hugely anticipated Truro City of Lights festival and parade lights up the city in spectacular fashion delighting the crowds who gather to see the display.

What happens?
One of the most anticipated family events in Cornwall’s festive calendar, the City of Lights is a vividly creative celebration incorporating art, music, dance and, as its name suggests, light. The event features a dazzling procession of giant handmade withy and tissue lanterns floating through the streets carried by professional artists accompanied by a host of smaller lanterns carried by Cornish school children and local community and youth groups. Every year the procession has a different theme and is escorted by feast of music and dance including samba, brass bands and pipes & drums. In advance of the procession, there is music throughout the city including performances by school groups and the festivities continue after the procession with more outdoor music performances at various locations.

How can you take part?
Truro High School for Girls will be the start of the procession for schools, the large lanterns will join them at Charles Street and then process through the city centre. At Little Castle Street, the procession splits and the large lanterns will double back on themselves via Victoria Square to Lemon Quay.

Families with small children are advised to avoid Lemon Quay and Boscawen Street which can get very busy! This route gives plenty of space for viewing the procession away from the crowds – try joining us at the start on Falmouth Road or cheer us to the finish on St George’s Road.

The schools will continue onto St Georges Road to finish at Hendra Park.

The Christmas Lights switch on will be in Boscawen Street.

The Park and Ride will be operating every 10 minutes and will pick up and drop off at the the Bus Station on Green Street.

Did you know?

Truro’s gothic revival cathedral spectacularly illustrates the city’s prosperity in the 19th century. Copying the great cathedral builders of the medieval age, its huge spires soar over the city skyline, and inside there are some of the finest examples of Victorian stained glass in the UK.

Bromley Santa Dash 2014

Sunday 30th November 2014

What is the Bromley Santa Dash?

The Santa Dash is a fun, festive, family orientated event over a 2km course starting at Queens Mead Rec and finishing up on Bromley High Street. The ‘dash’ is not a race, but a fun run, jog or walk around the course, allowing you to be a part of a fantastic Christmas experience as one of 100’s of Santa’s taking part.

Upon registration, you will receive a race pack which you collect prior to the event which contains your very own Santa suit and race number to be worn on the day. The event starts with a mass Christmas themed warm up, down at Queens Mead to get you all in the festive spirit and after you’ve completed your run you will also receive your souvenir medal!

Where & when?
The Santa Dash starts at 2pm on Sunday 30th November at Queen’s Mead Recreation Ground, however you will need to allow around 15-20mins beforehand to get down to the start and take part in the fun warm up.

Full event details will be provided in the race pack which will be available for collection before the event.

Who can take part?
The Santa Dash is a fun, family orientated event and is open for everyone to participate in, as long as you and anyone else you are signing up to the event are fit and able to take part.

You can sign a maximum of 6 people up on each registration form, however under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult on the day. Under 3’s won’t receive their own race pack or Santa Suit, however there will be a medal for them at the finish.

The course is set over a combination of mixed terrain and although we welcome pushchairs and wheelchair users to take part in the event, please be aware that due to the nature of the course you will be asked to start towards the rear of the participants to avoid bottle necks along the course.

Unfortunately dogs and reindeer are unable to take part in the event due to the nature of the course.

Please remember it’s not a serious running race and we recommend you jog or walk the course, taking in the atmosphere of the day.

Santa must visit every house, in every town, in every country across the World in order to get Christmas gifts to all the boys and girls who have been very good this year. Santa needs to limber up and train for this round-the-world adventure.

St Andrew’s Hospice have created a 6k festive fun run/walk/jog event to help Santa with his training. However Santa has asked if all the little girls and boys (and big girls and boys) of Lanarkshire can come and run with him?

Join us for a festive day of fun for all the family. All adults will get a Santa suit to wear and all children will be given reindeer antlers and flashing noses to get them into the festive spirit.
